Fall Festival

This was actually the second one we went to today. We got to go on this little hayride to a make-shift pumkin patch where Cooper got to pick a pumkin. How sad that there aren't any real pumkin patches or corn mazes here, but we still had fun.

Oh my gosh Sam, you're family is so cute! So I'm the YW's President in my ward and I'm totally trying to get the Laurels to volunteer at the Boys and Girls Club. Good time, good times. Where are you guys living at? You so have to meet my husband. Let me know next time you head up.

I appreciate you comment on my post. This is an interesting election and one I've been deeply embedded in for about 2 years now. I've been doing research on your questions so hopefully I can answer them. I have checked various sources.

Ok point one. The 150 million you're talking about probably has to do with the amount Mr. Obama raised in September. I came across some blogs that said this money probably came from terrorists, but I have not been able to find any reputable sources to support this. I do know for a fact that $20 came from DJ and me, so at least we know that much is legit. :)

The abortion issue is one I'm divided on with Mr. Obama. This is something that I have researched about him. I believe that Mr. Obama is a man of his word, because he hasn't given me any reason to doubt him so far. He has said this a couple of times, that he knows abortion is an issue that divides America, so it is important to find common ground. It is his pledge (and he is the reason why the Democratic platform has been changed) to fund programs that are proven to reduce unwanted pregnancies, thus lower the number of abortions performed.

Also, Mr. Obama's health care plan is not universal coverage. His plan is pretty simple. Fine companies who can but refuse to offer benefits to their employees. Extend state health care to cover all children. Increase employer incentives to offer health care. Allow private citizens to buy into state plans.

Unfortunately, because of the mismanagement of our government, I wouldn't be surprised if our taxes go up no matter who becomes elected. Our country produces 15 trillion dollars in products and services. Our national debt is going to reach 10 trillion dollars before the year is over. We cannot allow this debt to carry on to our children. I personally would pay slightly higher taxes if it meant our budget could become balanced. If it doesn't get fixed soon, we're going to have bigger problems when all the baby boomers retire (that's in 5-10 years).

My problem with McCain is that his tax plan is going to increase the deficit by 4 trillion dollars. The only thing McCain and I agree on is the abortion issue. In this election, I feel like all of the other issues are more pressing. Honestly, would McCain be able to overturn Roe v. Wade? Not at all. Reagan, Bush Sr., and Bush Jr. have appointed most of the current Supreme Court and they couldn't do it. The next president will have one, maybe two appointments. Its not going to swing that vote.

But like I've always said, people make political decisions based on their experiences and what is important to them. That is why voting is so personal and why we don't have to reveal who we vote for. I'm not extremely worried about a Mr. McCain presidency, I just think that Mr. Obama is better for America at this time. If you think McCain is better I say vote for him.

Oh ok, when he gets home tomorrow I'll ask him. He's been working out of town as well. Ok so we might be going to Arizona in January to visit my brother Justin. If we do we totally need to hang out. Hopefully we'll make it to Arizona for sure because I really want to go. What does you're husband do? How old are you're boys?
